The Hood Needs Doulas, PERIOD
I just wanted to start out this lil blog by saying THANK YOU! I am so grateful for the tribe of support I have and I don’t take any of you for granted. If you don’t know me or are interested to know a little more about me, my name is Cassie and I’m a doula who dabbles in a little bit of everything, because I know often people need more than 2 prenatals, a birth and a postpartum. I’m unsure if I should call myself “full spectrum” because there is so much on the spectrum of birthwork!
I have aspirations to be a clinician as I find that most of my clients have never heard of a doula or considered birth support beyond what they’ve been taught to expect (and usually the bar is actually set in HELL cuz we deserve way more!). I think it’s important to meet people where they are and through empowering their birth experience in the hospitals , they might feel even more empowered to advocate for themselves or try out a birthing center/home birth as long as it’s safe. I’m currently working towards those aspirations and it’s so exciting to see my dreams manifest at my fingertips. God is so faithful.
Like my best friend in my head, Issa Rae, says, I’m rooting for everyone Black. I’m down to support EVERYONE from all walks of life, gender identities, romantic preferences etc etc. My favorite quote is “protect the vulnerable” and I truly feel like I’m everybody’s mama... to my own demise sometimes. I’m here for and love everyone and want my clinical and spiritual work to highlight that.
If you don’t wanna read all that, START HERE: my name is Cassie and I’m the hood doula. I call myself that for obvious reasons: the hood needs doulas, period‼️
